The basics

When we think of WEDDINGS, we automatically think that its going to be the happiest day of our lives and believe me we're not far wrong. The imagination runs away with wonderful ideas of the DRESS, VENUES and lets not forget the dreaded best man/father of the bride SPEECH.

Everyday leading up to that one special moment, that dream, the unrivaled sense of achievement and happiness is a BRIDE and GROOMS worst nightmare. I think nightmare could be a strong word to use but I am going to stick with it (have you seen bridezillas? That's why I'm sticking with it :)

All joking a side, both parties (BRIDE & GROOM) have a lot to contend with, how do you choose the perfect DRESS, the perfect VENUE. Well hopefully I can help and give YOU some ideas, get your self a mug of tea and a sneaky chocolate biscuit and settle down in front of your computer and I will try to cover every aspect of your WEDDING, including DRESS,VENUE and even SPEECH side of things. Plus, I will help you with FLOWERS, FAVORS and even CAR choices.
DRESS (The most important part of the BRIDES wedding day)

When it comes to the WEDDING DRESS there are a wide variety of choices that could send your mind in to overload. The decision is a tough one to make and if the DRESS isn't right the wedding probably won't happen :) Firstly you have to choose the shape of DRESS you would prefer, there are a few shapes that suit certain figures I will brief you on the most common ones.

''A''-LINE. is exactly as its name describes, small (tight) at the top and splaying out (wider) at the bottom just like the letter ''A''. The ''A''- LINE DRESS is best suited to most BRIDES with a top heavy figure (inverted triangle) top heavy and wider hips (rectangle) small top with wider hips (pear) and if your shoulders and hips are almost aligned (hourglass) as it balances yourbody shape.
The A-line Wedding Dress

MERMAID/TRUMPET. This particular shape DRESS hugs the curves closely, a great choice if you really want to accentuate your curvy figure. This style of DRESS is more suited to the hour glass or rectangle figure, ladies that are petite will find that the DRESS shortens there appearance and may find it unappealing.Beautiful DRESS for the fit yet curvy lady.
The Mermaid Wedding Dress

EMPIRE, This DRESS has a very forgiving style, great for many different figures. This DRESS tends to compliment the inverted triangle, pear, apple (full figured from the hips up,althoughlegs can remain on the thin side) and the hour glass. It has a high waist line and the seam is just under the bust with the fabric below the waist gracefully falling to the floor. Also slim BRIDES with a small bust tend to like this shape. If you are a pregnant BRIDE this is the perfect DRESS for you as it is probably the most comfortable fitting DRESS.
The Empire Wedding Dress

Whatever your size or shape there is always the perfect DRESS out there for you.

There is one big question that is on every BRIDES lips and that is how much can I spend on my DRESS. This all depends on your budget and how bad you can make the GROOM feel ;)

If you have only got a small budget and still want the perfect DRESS don't be afraid to look in the charity shops ('' I know your thinking bad thoughts right now''.) But seriously if budget is a concern charity shops are a good option. People spend thousands on a DRESS for one day and then throw them out, you could have a really expensive DRESS for a fraction of the price and no one will know.

Another option is EBAY . You will find almost anything on Ebay, if your looking for a DRESS and your budget is either big or small you can find absolutely anything best of all you can get them at discount prices. What you will find is quite a lot of shops advertise on Ebay and 90% of the shops sell at discount prices or have special sales.

If your budget is of a more extravagant amount why not have a look at importing, I know you might think I am daft, but seriously you can get beautiful DRESSES made abroad and shipped to where you live. I know of a person who saw a DRESS in a shop in the UK and liked the style and shape but not the colour, so what they did was select the DRESS but then ordered the exact same one from China in the colour they wanted. Say for instance you lived in the UK but you liked a style of DRESS in America or China you could have the DRESS made for your shape. Here is an American company that import DRESSES worldwide. TIDEBUY . This company explains everything on there website and have a lovely collection of DRESSES.

One of the most common shops known for there DRESSES are PRONUPTIA . All I ask of you is to have a look at this shop as they do many different offers and deals.

VENUES

Everybody knows that the location of your WEDDING is crucial, the location has so many aspects to take in to consideration such as, atmosphere, idyllic surroundings for your photographs, whether there is entertainment (i.e singer/orchestra) included in the price, whether there is a WEDDING CAR included and most of all the overall PRICE!

Believe it or not, a lot of VENUES can offer substantial discounts. Say for instance you get a quote for £6500 and that includes everything, more than likely you can get them to reduce the price by £1000-£2000. VENUES are just like any other business, It's just like walking in to a shop and asking whats the best price you can give me? They want your custom and they will always make profit, the more profit they make the better for them as a business but if you ask them the question "what's your best price?" guaranteed they will offer you a discount, at first they will um and ah about it and reduce it a little but if you be persistent and a little bit cheeky, build a rapore with them, guaranteed you will get a discount.

There is a VENUE in the UK which is renowned for it's celebrity WEDDINGS, very expensive! A couple wanted to get married there and would do what ever it took to make it happen, the GROOM took it upon himself to visit the VENUE and meet the manager/WEDDING planner. For an average Joe (non celebrity) it cost £12.500, this got you a pretty decent WEDDING VENUE and extras. Now the GROOM asked the "question" and the manager said he could reduce it to £10.000 and that was the very best he could do, this was not enough for the GROOM and he asked again and again being a little bit cheeky and managed to get it down to.....................Are you sitting?...........£4.500. This included everything that the original price of £12.500 included. It just goes to show what a bit of cheek and persistence gets you.

I know this section is a little bit short but I really just wanted to get across how important it is that you bargain with the VENUE manager/WEDDING planner. Make sure you get the most out of the VENUES extras as this is your day and you want it to be perfect.

SPEECHES

You will find that most best man SPEECHES are more humour than serious, My personal opinion is that the best man is a jack the lad type person who in a way knows the GROOM better than anyone, more than likely a best friend or a brother.

Here are a few openers that you could maybe get the best man to use or even get ideas from.

Now, before I start, the hotel manager has asked me to request that, for reasons of health and safety, none of you get up on top of the chairs and tables during my standing ovation. Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - For those of you who don't know me, my name is (best mans name) and you are the luckiest people in the world. That's because the pleasure of getting to know me lies ahead of you.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am about to deliver a speech that you'll remember for the rest of your life. If you have a phenomenal memory and have absolutely nothing else to think about and you meet with a fatal accident on your way home.

Brother of the GROOM SPEECHES

Good evening everyone. This is actually the first time I have made a speech and it is true when they say that's its nerve racking. I only feel slightly better knowing that I am not the only person in the room who is apprehensive, but then again she has just married my brother.

Father of the BRIDE SPEECHES are all about how special the BRIDE is and how proud she has made her father, it's more of a settled SPEECH, less humour but equally as gripping as the best mans.

Here are a few examples of father of the BRIDE SPEECHES (openers)

Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen. I've tried to memorise this speech, but forgive me if I resort to my notes every five seconds. I did ask for an autocue to be set up in front of me, but apparently the wedding budget doesn't stretch that far. And, unfortunately, neither does my eyesight.

You have all come from various parts of the country to be with us here in (location) on BRIDE and GROOMS wedding day. Apart from a few local school friends everybody else has travelled at least 100 miles to attend this occasion. It shows how much you love and respect BRIDE and GROOM. Either that or you just came for the free meal. But even that comes at a cost, because now you have to listen to me.

Here are the basics to help prepare for the SPEECH in hand.

1. Open by thanking those who made the day possible-end with saying "Thank you to all those who have made it here today."

2. Transition to your speech: "I am especially glad to be here on this occasion to celebrate this wonderful day with my friend/brother."

3. Talk about how you know the groom, why you're grateful for having him as your friend, and why he's such an upstanding guy.

4. Share a story about your friend/daughter and connect it to the couple.

5. Raise your glass and ask everyone to join in a toast to the happy couple.

6. Let out a sigh of relief.

Here is a fantastic E-book for the best man, tells you everything you need to know and even has ready made SPEECHES for you to get great ideas. BEST MAN SPEECHES

This E-book is for the father of the BRIDE,  it is a fantastic read and will give you no end of ideas for the big SPEECH. FATHER OF THE BRIDE

Below are a selection of E-books for you to feast your eyes on, all of a fantastic quality and an essential must have for your WEDDING.

I am going to talk about FLOWERSFAVOURS and WEDDING CARS in this next section. All important features of the WEDDING and can also be expensive, here you will get ideas and tips for you to maybe have a look at and even try out.

 FLOWERS

FLOWERS are a very special part of the WEDDING from the brides bouquet down to the table center pieces. The theme is usually set from a favourite colour and that carries through from say the BRIDES maids DRESSES to the FLOWERS, it is also usually the ribbon on the BRIDAL CAR. There is no set preference to what flowers you have on your WEDDING day, but there are common ones and BRIDAL parties tend to stick to the common choices as it is easier and less stressful. There is nothing to say you have to do this because everybody is different and obviously one persons taste might not be another persons. Try to think outside the box, be creative and really research different specimens of plants and FLOWERS, there are millions to choose from. Here are a few unusual bouquets that could take your fancy.

An unusual Cascade bouquet made from sunflowers

This bouquet is made from sunflowers and is a cascade style.             I personally think this is a beautiful example of the sunflower as I don't think you really see this as a common bouquet style.

An Unusual Pomander Bouquet Made from Gerbera Daisies

This beautiful arrangement is called a pomander/ kissing ball bouquet and is made from Gerbera Daisies. Usually used as a BRIDES maid or a FLOWER girls bouquet but has made its way to a fully fledged BRIDES bouquet.

Wand Style Wedding Bouquet, made of herbs

This design is called the scepter or the wand style, made using sweet smelling herbs that include lavender. A beautiful example of a BRIDES bouquet. One of my personal favourites.

Pretty hoop style bouquet ideal for Bridemaids
This  special little number is called the hoop, it can be made from practically any FLOWER as the the FLOWERS are thread through the willow branches. I think a nice poppy or even if you got a climber plant to grow around the hoop  a few month before the WEDDING, make it your own special project.

If you feel creative I can recommend a great E-book to use, CREATE YOUR OWN WEDDING FLOWERS

Here is another E-book just to give you a variety, THE BEGINNERS GUIDE TO WEDDING FLOWERS

Another option for a center piece is a goldfish bowl, I have seen this done before and it looked fantastic. You could have different coloured goldfish and use this on the table list, Mr & Mrs X on red table and have a red fish, MR & Mrs Y on the yellow table and have a yellow fish and so forth.

FAVOURS

WEDDING FAVOURS are a novelty gift usually put on the tables where the guests sit, they can be a humorous gift box or maybe  a specific gift for each individual. What ever your decision make it a personal touch.
You could use little chocolate hearts or a common one is the little love heart sweets in a gift bag or box, more personal FAVOURS could be his & hers fountain pens and  for the children a little colouring book and crayons as this could keep them entertained for a while.
BRIDE and GROOMS often put little tubs of bubbles and balloons on the tables, you could even sprinkle glitter or coloured table confetti to brighten up the guest tables. The list of things that you could do are endless.

Here are a few ideas for you to have a think about, maybe even use.

The first FAVOURis the love heart sweets, one of the most common. I would    use this idea as a safety as its in expensive and every body loves the little sweets

This FAVOUR adds a bit of shine and class at a low cost, it's chocolate hearts with shiny foil wrappers. You can get these in a variety of colours so will go with almost any colour scheme. You can also get heart shaped
lollies and other various heart shaped chewy sweets.

Another nice idea is a HIS & HERSfountain or ball point pen as this adds a touch of class and comes in handy for the guest. Make sure the pens are of good quality and not a "BIC" pen ( just an example not saying anything bad about "BIC" pens) :)

Here's one for the children so they keep entertained, colouring books and crayon sets or little toys and puzzles.

There are many different types of FAVOURS and really it is down to the BRIDE and GROOMS preference and theme of WEDDING.
I hope this little section has helped and got you thinking of all the different options available to you, really put your mind in to the FAVOURS as the little touches are one of the most memorable.

CARS

Where to begin?  This section is really just for ideas and tips because each individual has there own preference to there favourite cars and individual taste is what counts.
Usually the BRIDE likes the posh CAR and the GROOM wants the sports CAR, now there is a compromise as the main WEDDING CAR could be a ROLLS ROYCE or a BENTLEY and the BRIDES maids CAR could be a nice sporty MERCEDES or BMW.
You might think I am daft even mentioning the types of cars above but where there's a will there's a way and you can get some amazing deals on WEDDING transportation.
